One of the best things about the holiday season is being around family and making memories that will last forever. With of the hustle and bustle during the holiday season, it is so important to have traditions to fall back on. If you grew up celebrating during the holidays, you’ve probably participated in one or more family traditions. The following are some classic ways to celebrate the holidays, plus a few more contemporary ideas for those of you looking for something new.
During the holiday season, there are numerous families who are less fortunate than most of us. A great tradition to start with your family would be to give to those in need. One way to do this would be to have your children pick out some toys to wrap and then donate them to your local mission. Also, the Salvation Army is a great resource to find different ways to volunteer during the holiday season: Salvation Army . Participating in one or more of these activities will help your kids learn that it is always better to give than to receive.
One of the newer traditions that has become popular would have to be Elf on the Shelf. You can find TONS of ideas on how to do this in your home on Pinterest. Build your very own Gingerbread Village! Give your children all of the supplies needed to build and decorate their own house. Parents can have fun along with them and build one too! You can either make the house from Scratch or buy a Kit. Either way you’ll have tons of fun as a family and you can take pictures of your creations to remember for years to come!
If you feel like getting out of the house, one of my favorites is driving around (or walking) to see holiday lights. A lot of local parks and zoos are decorated extravagantly and you can walk or drive through. Sometimes you can even see houses that are lit up so much that you don’t know where to look first!
